Getting Messy with Corrie Jones

Corrie created a wonderful background with paint, rub-ons, and paper tape. She added embellishments focusing on the number sixteen to emphasize her daughter turning that age. Let's hear in Corrie's words how she got messy and created this stunning layout:

I love that this month we are spending the time getting messy.  There are so many fun things to play with and get messy on a scrapbook layout.  My favorite things!!  Gesso, paint, mist, ink, and rub ons all are perfect messy supplies.  These products are the best for me to use to really create a page that feels like my page.

For this page about my daughter being 16 (how did that happen???) I started by covering the background with gesso.  This is a great way to create a stronger paper base.  I then combined gesso and Speckled Egg paint from the paint dauber and brushed it down the page.  I used washi tape, some sprinkled ink, rub ons and sequins to finish off the background.

Everything else is a fun embellishment.  Plenty of reminders that she is sixteen.

I hope you play with paints and rub ons and really allow yourself to try some messy techniques.

Getting Messy with Leah and the Kids!

Leah Farquharson shares her messy technique with us today which can actually involve children!

I had so much fun stepping into the studio space with our boys to play around a bit and make this piece. It reminded me of some of the fun things I did when I was in grade school - and also took me to a place where I was having fun and experimenting with my artwork - something that I've been working on doing in the classes I'm taking. I also added a bit of free motion stitching on top of the bubbles, but ended up covering all but just a bit of that with my layout pieces...

Here's how we made the bubbles:

Add water and concentrated ink (reinker for ink pads) or paint to a plate, and then add just a drop of dish detergent.

Using a straw, blow bubbles until you get a whole pile of them.

Once you have a whole bunch, gently lay your paper on top. It may take a few tries to get the right amount of ink bubbles on your paper.

Either allow your paper to dry on it's own, or apply a heat gun to dry out the ink.

This created a random, soft and subtle background for my layout piece. If you use paint, the effect will be must stronger...

I then added my random free motion stitching on top of my ink bubbles.

I finished by adding my embellishments on top...

Have fun getting messy!

This month our design team is sharing messy techniques!  We're starting here with Louise Nelson:

Heeeeeello Hello :) :) :)

What an awesome month for creative shares!!! I so so love the brief 'Get Messy'! Like I would say no LOL :)

With the layout I am sharing with you today I have used heaps of glorious product from Jenni BowlinStudio! all the information is listed at the bottom of the blog post :).

To create my background I used one of the awesome Dina Wakley's masks; the 12 x 12 Boulders stencil. I have sprayed the stencil with both a white and grey mist and then stamped the mask on to the cardstock background, its as simple as that!!!!!

I have added extra splats of colour with Jenni Bowlin paints; which I applied with a small soft bristle paint brush :)

Aaaaaaand so would you like to know fabulous Jenni Bowlin Studio products I used???

These flatbacks are sooooo TDF!!!! :)

What is not to love about these?!!!!!! :)

Well that is it from me for the Mo! I do hope you enjoy all the messy technique fun that will be on the blog this month!!!!!

Cheers and Happy Creating!!

New Product Focus with Leah Farquharson

I'm loving the newest goods from Jenni Bowlin Studio this season. I've put together something really simple today featuring a bunch of the lovely wood veneer pieces, flatbacks, rubons, and triangle sequins! One of the biggest projects for a class I'm currently taking is learning to see and collect inspiration from the world all around you. It's been a very eye opening, and lovely experience. I have to say, it really makes you think a bit more about the world all around you that you pass by all the time - sometimes without even seeing. - Leah

New Product Focus : JBS Rub-Ons and Your Pocket Pages

I am using the pocket page format for my son's college baseball album.  I'm finding it an easy way to store the photos I know he'll want to see years from now, record stats and records, and store memorabilia.

I've found that the new Jenni Bowlin Studio Pennants Rub-Ons, Labeled Rub-Ons, and other JBS gold Rub-Ons work extremely well with this format.

I want to keep the format similar and simple throughout the entire book.  This is the only way I'll finish by the time he graduates next year!  The gold is such a fun neutral and goes with anything, including the blues and whites of his baseball uniform.  The gold will certainly match with any other school and uniform color, too.

The new JBS Wood Veneer buttons add another neutral touch with dimension.  I painted them with a clear glitter paint and added matching embroidery thread.

The pockets are either white cardstock with Spice Tin splatters - or blue with splattered white paint and die-cut titles.

I just love the cohesive look when you keep with certain color schemes and embellishments on each pocket: a hint I learned from Doris!

Another great way to use your JBS Rub-Ons is to rub them directly onto the top of the plastic pocket page.  The enlarged photo above was from a photographer and I wanted to preserve it as is, so I rubbed a Pennant Rub-On and a piece of the Tiny Trims Revised onto the top of a plastic 6x8 pocket.  JBS Rub-Ons are of GREAT quality and transfer to paper like buttah and to transfer them onto a slick plastic surface, you just need to rub twice!

I am thrilled with this format and using Jenni's Rub-Ons to embellishment my pockets!  I think my son will be too!
